Blogging Not Allowed For Journalist At Swedish Television

Journalist Per Gudmundson has written his last blog post (in Swedish only).

Per Gudmundson is working at the Swedish public service broadcaster SVT, and he has been told - he writes - that his blog is in conflict with the demand that all SVT employees should restrain themselves from doing or saying anything in public that could lead to the broadcasters impartiality being questioned.

The choice between working or blogging was easy: "I have always been for sale, like all other journalists", he writes and refers to the fact that some of Sweden's most famous journalists regularly work for companies as for example lecturers or debate chairmen.

I haven't made up my mind yet about this. I don't know if I think SVT is doing right or wrong. I have worked there myself as a news reporter and much of the company's relevance (on the media market) is a result of its high standards of impartiality. On the other hand it seems as if BBC reporters can blog, and BBC and SVT are the same kind of companies.
